Look-a-like 12 oz Flat Tops

Post by eric »

These are the 12 oz flats that I can't tell what the difference is in USBC vol 1:

Burgermeister 46-40 vs. 47-1

Croft 52-32 vs. 52-33

Drewry's Old Stock Ale 55-29 vs. 55-30

Frankenmuth Ale 66-38 vs. 66-39

Grain Belt 73-38 vs. 73-39

Heidelberg 81-12 vs. 81-13

Hyde Park 75 84-33 vs. 84-34

Jax 86-17 vs. 86-18

Kingsbury Bock 88-13 vs. 88-14

Lucky Lager 93-20 vs. 93-21

Neuweiler 102-40 vs. 103-1

Neuweiler 103-2 vs. 103-3

Regal Pale 120-37 vs. 120-38

Schaefer 128-4 vs. 128-5 These appear identical in the book, but the supplement has a different picture for 128-5 that is different from 128-4

Schlitz 129-20 vs. 129-21

Tivoli 138-39 vs. 138-40

Trommer's 139-32 vs. 139-33

Valley Forge 142-38 vs. 142-39

Only six of these pairs have new pictures for both cans in the online supplement, and even for those I am not really seeing a definitive front-label difference. I suppose most of these are very slight color changes in the reds or yellows or golds, but maybe someone sees something I am missing on these?

Two sets:
As for the Grain Belt pairs, look at the 'r' in the word beer. There is a definitive extra loop or swoosh at the end of the 'r' on #39 as opposed to #38.

As for the Kingsbury bock cans, I have always heard that it is a color difference--orange vs yellowish. The book kinda shows -13 as the orange one and -14 as the lighter one. I have the orange version, but not the other.

Don't know anything about the others.

Thanks for the Grain Belt tip, wasn't sure if that part of the "r" was just obscured in the picture or if it was intentionally printed that way. Do you have both? I did notice the slightly more yellowish look for the second Kingsbury Bock, mine also seems to be the orangish one.

Chuck, the Frankenmuth and International variations from Michigan are 66-25 and 66-26, I'm asking about 66-38 and 66-39 from Buffalo.

As a California geek, I have nothing to add on your three examples (Burg, Lucky, Regal) other than that they have stumped me too. I wonder if these are Keglined/Kan-Keg transitions, or metallic/satin finish differences.
