The Brown Derby definitely went higher than I would think, but finding that particular Brown Derby design on any tab is really tough to do. I'm still looking for the matching (well, almost matching, the one with contents in smaller letters) Brown Derby from Maier for instance, in any condition.

That is crazy, I would expect maybe $700-$800 for a can like that, I think that is what a touched up can got a couple of years ago. Are there any ongrade examples of the strong variation?

Two recent auctions for the green/yellow IRTP Old Milwaukee. The first one goes for a whopping $795, significantly more than I paid for Gene's much nicer can last year, with only two bidders above $195. The second one sells for the opening bid price of $275 nine days later, not to the runner-up of the first one.

That was some interesting bidding, on the last day the bidding is at about $340 and the eventual winner drops a $782 bid, I can only think to make sure he would beat any snipes. The guy he outbids immediately start bidding in small increments until he gets all the way to $745 before deciding enough is enough. But it eats him up and a couple of hours later he is back with a couple of more bids to put him ahead. Then the winner comes in with a snipe at the end. Oof.

I really like that can, not in my wheelhouse right now but I am sure I will get to it since it is a Wisconsin can.

Delving a little deeper, the 2nd highest bidder on the 1st can has bid on 470 items in the past 30 days . . . a total of 1,317 bids including the 24 bids on this one. Somebody ask me again why I wait until the end of an auction to bid . . .

All the pre-war Old Milwaukees are really nice cans and were on my hit list when I started buying again 6 - 7 years ago. I acquired decent offgrade examples of the other four within a couple years, but I had to have this one grade 1 or better because it's by far the most obtainable of the bunch. I was quite surprised at how long it took me to find it in nice shape. If you really like it and want it in good shape, you might want to grab it when the opportunity arises (and when it doesn't cost $800 . . .).

Empire Premium: USBC 60-1
- Always liked this can. Didn’t bid on this one, maybe next time.
Price seemed about right for the condition.

This a more of an ebay gripe than a notable auction but last night there was a really clean Pabst blue with silver goat bock that was at $174 at snipe time. I put my bid in with 7 or 8 seconds left and it spun and spun until the timer was as 0 and for about 10 seconds after and then said congratulations you're the winner at $174. That couldn't be right and sure enough when I clicked pay now got an error and then when refreshing said it sold for $174. It wasn't my internet ebay had an issue and since no one else got a snipe in I suspect it wasn't just me. Good for the winner, even if he had still won it would have cost him. But bad for the seller that ebay had issues.

That has happened to me a couple of times where my bid, like yours, was not even accepted. Simple example:

The high bid is $20 with 10 seconds remaining.
I place a bid of $40.
ebay responds with "outbid, bid again"
with only 3 seconds left, too late to bid again. My bid not accepted.
High bidder wins at $20
My bid should have been accepted with 3 seconds remaining and high bidder should have won at $41.

Some glitch in the system, hurts the seller... maybe the can gods wanted that can to sell for 20 bucks. -Billy

I am sure I have been on the other side of it and benefited from others not getting bids in due to a glitch so yeah what goes around comes around. I guess there is something to be said about getting in the lead before snipe time. It sure makes me nervous though if I have a can worth several hundred out there that everyone is laying in the weeds for at the end.

I laughed out loud when I saw this metallic Tru Blu Ale listed at $1,350 recently - big scar in the middle of the face, large area wasted on the back, substantial humidity, and the metallic version isn't nearly as tough as the enamel. I was quite surprised to see that it sold for $1,250. I guess I should have bought it when it was offered here for $275 in 2016 . . .

Actually, if you look at the sellers "sold" items, it shows they accepted an offer below $1,250.

How much below? Well, ebay doesn't want us to know that. Granted, unlikely it was $975 less, but still less.

Maybe some of you Indiana boys can help me understand this one. Red Top from Terre Haute, IN.

Can is, IMHO, in average grade 1 condition, maybe. Nice, but spots on both faces and some nicks hold it back from a higher grade. Again, in my opinion.

Shouldn't this be like a $150-$200 can? Recently sold for north of $1k. What am I missing here?

Nice can but I never thought a Pfeiffer Extra Special would go for almost $700. I collect Michigan flats and consider this one of the ugliest cans on the shelf!!

I watched that Extra Special go up and got nervous about this MI can. My crazy, not-going-to-get sniped, bid stuck until the end. I went considerably higher, thought it being a bank might hold it back a little but hey, shows what I know. Ziphippie https://www.ebay.com/itm/164320810161

I have no idea what it goes for on average but it looks much better than mine and is really tough. But, I paid much less for mine so I am happy with what I have.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

You never see this can. I thought it would go higher, but guess being rolled kept it from going higher.
I didn't catch that it was rolled. I don't have any animosity toward rolled cans but I know some folks do. I have a dumper in about grade 2- that I picked out of Aho's @YooperAho dumper box back in the 80s for $1 (I'm sure we're even by now!). You are correct that you don't see that can very often.

Can is, IMHO, in average grade 1 condition, maybe. Nice, but spots on both faces and some nicks hold it back from a higher grade. Again, in my opinion.

Shouldn't this be like a $150-$200 can? Recently sold for north of $1k. What am I missing here?

Update to my original post above: This same can was recently relisted by the same seller on eBay. I messaged him to ask what was up. Said high bidder told him his child fingered the phone near the end of the auction for more that he was willing to pay. Therefore, he was backing out. Relisted can just sold for $269. Ouch!

Weird. It takes two to get a price up that high. A kid playing with a phone is only one bidder.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

2023 Shows Attended

* Michigan Chapter Winterfest, January 14, Frankenmuth Michigan
* Cabin Fever Reliever, February 24, Mishawaka Indiana
* Buckeye, March 11, Toledo Ohio
* SummerSwap, July 21 & 22, Frankenmuth Michigan

Bryan, you are exactly right.

I followed up to my original question (why was the can relisted) and asked why he didn't offer it to the 2nd place bidder. He said he did send a second chance offer and the bidder never responded.

Interesting to note: In the original auction, top bid was $1,059, 2nd place bidder was $1,034, 3rd place $75.

Perhaps the 2nd bidder had a chance to do some homework and/or think about it for a minute and backed off. Also of note: It doesn't appear that either of the high bidders in the first auction bid at all in the second.

Such is life in the wild world of eBay!

The same bidder who bid 24 times on the Old Milwaukee discussed above bid 35 times in the first auction for the Redtop, and in the past 30 days has bid 1225 times on 543 items. I don't like the way it smells . . .

Ebay - a place you buy a can for $125 and then a few weeks later someone offers you $12 for it at a trade show after you got an upgrade. Caveat Emptor.

Was looking like this can was going to go under the radar. $645 for an Altes crowntainer? Yes, this can has an alcohol statement on it. Before this can showed up on ebay, I personally knew of 3 confirmed and 1 suspected example of the this can. This would be the 4th or 5th example. Any more hiding out there?
