That big boy is still swimming, getting bigger- we’ll see him again someday.
Schmitty outfished me on my home turf!
We were throwing the same exact Rapala, it really was a beautiful day- Ziphippie

Yep all artificials, I’m usually throwing a homegrown bucktail through the thick weeds and algae blooms but this year it is clean and clear so a big 7” neon Rapala has been the ticket. Ziphippie

I know people bring their big musky lures down here and they catch Snook and Redfish. Or at least the hook our fish. They usually have to swap out the hooks to something stronger. Maybe one day I'll get a chance to try some of my Snook and Redfish lures on those big girls.

Another 41” Northern Pike caught and released with hover31! What an epic battle full of jumps like on the Schmidt can and runs that bent the pole in half. I also had an audience of about 50 people in pontoon boats docked just off shore. It has been an amazing week with an amazing friend!!!

A couple days after ETA passed by, Sarasota Bay was still dirty. Took a while for find some redfish and had to try three different baits before I found one they would hit. Too bad I can't go back tomorrow for more.

Finally found some of those tasty walleyes last nite in the river, been an extremely mild fall with low water throughout the county. Going again tonight with BadgerJeff, hopefully get smore fillets. Ziphippie

Zip - Are pike THE sport fish for hard water ? I follow a ADK fishing page and seems pike are a big thrill and get lots of hype .. so when you go PikeN do they tend to be in same places each year ? Are you using any cameras ? Are they more of winter fish ?

kb you know me- I like the toothy critters. Waste of bait catching a bass. We are on the same lake as Jeffs 41” pic at the top of the page- about 400 yards away from the summer hotspot. There are cold springs all along the shore and the big boys go shallow first ice and near the creek inlet during the dog days of summer. We put one tip up in the summer spot last time, no flag. The last one he caught would not come out of the hole, I attempted to grab it twice and had to take a backseat to another friend of mine who was able to get it on the ice. They are so much fun, we were chasing flags all day! Tasty too- Ziphippie

Didn’t realize pike was a delicacy , seem so slimy and boney - I like the littler guys , ‘eyes and perch ... well FishOn, Tight lines , Flag up ( whatever the ice guys say ) , still haven’t done the ice game yet and ain’t looking good here in WNY , we are in a calm balmy state now , maybe Chuck should send us some sunscreen and looks like another week -
But creeks are open !

Going in the morning with BadgerJeff so had to make space for more fillets in the fridge. I make fried pike cake sandwiches, kinda like a po’boy.

Grill 6lb.’s (approx.) pike meat in butter- fillet like any other fish into two ‘sides’. The bones pull/slide out of the cooked fillets, remove bones. Add crumbs from twelve saltines, green onion and two eggs for binder. Use ice cream scoop to place in hot oil and flatten. Fry. Slap that on a roll with some slaw- my kids love it. Put fried cakes in the freezer for individual sammy’s later on. Flag! Ziphippie
