Continental Can Co. Locations 1956

#1

Post by keithker »

I was lucky enough to get these Continental Can Company cards that display geographically in the USA and Canada where their plants are located.

I believe @Tinman had already identified the six Canadian locations.

I need to sit down with my most updated version of locations and at least confirm or deny the approximated location.

I doubt it would add any but still thought it was worth having these Continental Can Company cards from the 1956 Veterans Club banquet.

One of these days when I am in Florida, I definitely need to stop by. I have a feeling you have a lot of cool stuff related to the history of this hobby. I like cans and what not but it's the history that really intrigues me.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

2023 Shows Attended

* Michigan Chapter Winterfest, January 14, Frankenmuth Michigan
* Cabin Fever Reliever, February 24, Mishawaka Indiana
* Buckeye, March 11, Toledo Ohio
* SummerSwap, July 21 & 22, Frankenmuth Michigan

I'm presuming that these noted locations are sales offices, often located in the vicinity of plants and or resources.
Bear in mind that in 1956 only one Continental can plant (CCC59) in Canada located in Lachine (Montreal) Quebec was producing beer cans for the 3 eastern provinces that permitted canned beer sales, they also produced some beer cans for the export to the USA during this period. It would be another ten years before another 5 provinces of Canada permitted the sale of beer in cans. Soda cans were introduced to Canada in the late 50's.
I numbered the locations starting in the west,
CC 1956 Locationsm.jpg
#1 is most likely Vancouver, I believe the plant in Burnaby (a suburb of Van.) was being built in mid late 50's.
#2 could be either Edmonton or Calgary.
#3 most likely is Hamilton, which is our steel town and several plants were located in the vicinity.
#4 pretty sure is Toronto, there was several plants in and around the area.
#5 should be Montreal, although geographically Montreal is a bit further out the river.
#6 most likely is Quebec City, which had no plants but is in the hub of the pulp and paper industry.

I found this site helpful...

Hope this helps,
