Thrift Store find

#1

Post by Tinman »

Shelley was out thrifting with the neighbour last week, when she arrived home she asked if I had a XXXXXXXXX can, I thought for a moment and said I recognize the name but I didn't think I had one, a quick check confirmed that indeed I did not.

She went on to explain that it was part of an auction lot at one of the stores they had visited and the auction had several days left. The next day we went to check it out and I placed a bid, the auction closes 5 days after the last bid so a few days later we stopped by and I'd been out bid, so I placed another bid and this time a bit healthier... Currently I'm high bidder and believe it will close tomorrow.

Here's a picture of the lot with the can cut out.... anyone care to throw out a guess as to what it is... it is a PT

A clue... It is an American brand, introduced in the mid 60's....

You are on the right track, Vernors is an American brand and was produced under license here in Canada, there are a couple tougher Vernors 10oz cans which I would be thrilled in finding, sorry, it was 1965 when this brand was released,

"clue"
this should give it away, the brand name was written about for numerous years prior to it being released.

I was in town today and stopped by the thrift store hoping to pick up the lot and found I'd been mislead, the auction runs 7 working days (closed Sun.) so I won't get to pick it up until the earliest Monday IF there are no other bidders...

Here's a bit more of the can...
Thrift shop group half cut.jpg
those who have it (as I suspect will be many as it is a common US can) should recognize it.. I read elsewhere on this forum that this Canadian version is tough...

The call came on Saturday afternoon that we were top bidders and the item would be available for pick up on Monday, so we picked up the two boxes of carefully packed bottles with the unwrapped can and Coke Swedish reindeer just laying on top. I happily paid the bill which included no buyers premiums or sales tax, just the amount of the bid....There is a onetime $5.00 fee for a bid number which we already had.

I've never considered myself a bottle collector, although I do have a couple hundred soda and beer bottles on display. Of the couple dozen bottles in this group I up-graded three (marked with orange) and I was able to squeeze four new ones (marked with red) onto my soda bottle shelf.
Thrift shop group picked.jpg
The one in behind the Wishing Well is a Suncrest...The rest of the slag will be in the next yard sale... There was a NDNR 10oz American brand I had not heard of... Crass... turns out he was one of the founders of one of the largest Coca Cola distributors in the USA...

There's a couple packaging dings on the French side but no rust or scratches,
Kickapoo.jpg
Kickapoopq.jpg
While wiping it down with a damp cloth I noticed that the stamp ID on the bottom started with my initials... like it was destined for me...I tried to take a picture but I can't get it to show all the characters.

All thanks to a sharp eyed wife out thrifting for the day!
