Pasty - Upper Peninsular
I had a UP excursion this summer, visited the Porcupine Mountains, Keweenaw Peninsular, and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
During the trip the best Pasties I had were in Houghton at Amy j’s just north of the bridge..
Am I wrong, anyplace better?

Re: Pasty - Upper Peninsular
Suomi Bakery in downtown Houghton has the best pasties in my opinion. They also have the best and most authentic Finnish menu in the U.P.....breakfast is awesome.Clarkston1 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 8:31 pm I had a UP excursion this summer, visited the Porcupine Mountains, Keweenaw Peninsular, and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Re: Pasty - Upper Peninsular
Suomi Bakery makes pasties with a little bit different crust than most other places....much lighter. They are more like my grandmother used to make (@YooperAho's great Aunt).
Our Finnish grandmothers made pasties for Grandpa Jalmer and Uncle Waino (Jonny's grandfather) as lunch when they worked in the iron mines in the Yoopee. I like the lighter crust better. The picture of the pie is not my Grandmothers but is the closest I could find to an actual picture of what she would serve for dinner. The smaller ones were more like "sandwiches" for lunch.

Re: Pasty - Upper Peninsular
I got some great pasties when I was up there last fall. I do not recall the name of the place but I believe I was about 30 minutes west of St. Ignace on 2. I always had them with ground beef in the past but this place offered an Italian sausage variety. I really liked them.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

I would have put gravy on it but I bought them frozen for later and forgot to ask for some gravy to go. They were great!kamsquared wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 10:19 pmItalian sausage in a pasty?!?!?! Re: Pasty - Upper Peninsular
Oh man, those all look amazing. My first experience of Pasties was visiting my wife's hometown of Lake Odessa and picking some up from the local store Horocks. Can't wait to get back up there at th end of the summer and pick up more! Wish I had known about them when I visited Houghton 10 years ago! Well, got to enjoy the KBC at least
