Any Comic Book Collectors Here?
I have collected, bought, sold and traded comics for several years before getting back into cans about a year ago. I collected all kinds of things, but focused heavily on the Carl Barks Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge books, EC titles, horror and sci-fi books and several other esoteric titles. Often times the cover art alone made the decision on if I would get the book or not.
Anyone else here collect old comics? I'd be quite happy to trade from my large supply of "traders" for cans if anyone is interested. Thanks.

I have collected Avengers comics for 35 years. Except for the last year or so I pretty much have them all. My oldest son will take them over when I'm finally go insane.

Re: Any Comic Book Collectors Here?
When I was a kid my older brother and I had about 1000 comics.
They where stored in a storage locker when we had to move to NC.
When my Dad and I finally went back to Texas 5 years later to get our stuff we found out the locker had been flooded
during a tropical storm.
Almost all the comic books where nasty moldy mush.
I did manage to salvage a few and some of the original Beer Can collection but the only comics I've added are the Ren and Stimpy ones.

Re: Any Comic Book Collectors Here?
I used to collect comics but sold them long ago. I made a better find with those than i ever did with cans. I found out a vintage knife collector(i used to collect those too!) i used to deal with had a bunch and i got them for about a hundred bucks. He had them stored the way your not supposed to keep them, laying flat in a cardboard box with no bags or acid free boards yet they were all still near mint. They were stuff that i wasn't into, mostly all late 50's dell's with titles like tarzan, zoro, maverick etc. Brought them to a show and between selling and trading i made about a grand, not bad for a 19 year old kid. This was when comics were huge around the time the keaton batman movie was out.

Re: Any Comic Book Collectors Here?
I wonder what one of those Colt 45 comics would bring on Ebay? haha
As for finds, I've made a lot more high-value comic book finds than I have beer cans finds thus far. Of course I always had to pay for the comics instead of finding them in the woods or in a dump, but I bought several nice collections over the years and sold many of them. I guess the nicest was my cousin who gave me all of his old Marvel comics when I was a kid. I'm talking Fantastic Four #1 - on, Spiderman #1 - on, and all of the other major name titles. I sold and traded most of them back in the day when I was young and quite stupid (although I'm still not sure how far I've advanced on the stupid scale). Few of those books were in mint condition, but I wish I had them today to sell.
I sold some decent comics on Ebay about this time last year to get my can collection going. I'll likely sell more of them to do the same thing this year.

Re: Any Comic Book Collectors Here?
Well, this is bit belated, but so what?
I've got a couple buddies who are seriously into old comics and 1940's pinup art, and it rubbed off on me some. I collected some underground "comix", R. Crumb and the like, as well as some modern small press stuff like Cry For Dawn and Cavewoman for a while. I should have bought Golden Age Batman instead, as it's worth several times what it was 15 years ago, but I digress . . .
I did get reprints of all the old EC comics, other pre-code crime comics, and some of the Carl Barks ducks, and it's all great stuff I can read over and over again. I managed to accidentally stumble across the Flaming Carrot issue with the Krueger can, so I do have that one. Modern comics are mostly crap, but comics in general are a uniquely American art form and have had a huge impact on our culture for good reasons.

Re: Any Comic Book Collectors Here?
I happened to peruse sold items on eBay recently and found that a modern Star Wars comic sold for $4,000. I thought, "Wait, I have that". Not only do I have it, but for some reason I bought two copies of the limited variant cover. Ahsoka Tano became a pop culture phenomenon from the Clone Wars animated TV series, and this is her first appearance in comics. I've done OK at collecting things over the years, but this is the first time I've collected something which appreciated several hundred times the price I paid.

Re: Any Comic Book Collectors Here?
I was looking at some beer cans some time back when the homeowner says, “I lost my Superman comic in this basement, Action Comics Superman #1”!!
He thinks his kid may have taken and sold it. We looked and looked- I’d never get over it. Ziphippie

Re: Any Comic Book Collectors Here?
I have a couple hundred. I’ll have to send a pic later. All boxes up. Dr Strsnge. Walking dead etc. I think I based my buying decisions on how low the price on the cover was and condition
Interested in all flat and Cone Soda and Water cans.

Re: Any Comic Book Collectors Here?
The Clone Wars variant is really heating up very recently - check out these eye-popping results. It was a $2,000 book in 9.8 a year ago according to what I've read. I'm glad I didn't find out until now - I paid $10 apiece or less when it came out in 2008, so I'd have sold the duplicate for sure if I'd known sooner. It's looking like time to send them in for grading and hold the spare for a while. My regular edition is really high grade, but the variants are only in the 9.0 to 9.2 range . . . having them pressed might help, though.

Re: Any Comic Book Collectors Here?
You buy really good ones too! I never got into Marvel much, but I believe Amazing Fantasy #15 is the most valuable comic by Marvel since Marvel Comics #1 was by Timely. First appearance of Spider Man.
I occasionally still buy comics to read, but it's been several years since I bought anything to "collect". I collected some moderns for a number of years before selling the better ones. I collect some original art still. I got interested in Golden Age D.C.'s several years ago and bought Batman #3 and Wonder Woman #8, but I sold them and thinned down the art collection a bit in response to the amount of money I spent on Gene's cans. I began looking for a Golden Age D.C. or two again last fall, but prices skyrocketed during the pandemic and I'm not convinced it's a permanent change. I'd really like one of the pre-Robin issues of Detective Comics, but those have gone up more than anything.

Picked up this about 5 years ago...my only card as a one off purchase.
Would like to get Willie’s Rookie card PSA 10 but I don’t see those that often.

Just picked up a collection of Dr Strange. Must be a couple hundred in the boxes. Now to dig through and determine if any value. Fun fun.
