Pickwick Ale - dated labels - always?

Picked these up in a group bottles and noticed the pickwick labels all have a dot matrix type (but punched out) date vertically down the middle. The date is 5-31-34. Someone on Facebook posted on from 1936 also so now I’m curious if all pickwick ales from the 30s had this

Just an update. Apparently breweries that did not pasteurize their beer had to include these dates on their labels
