Some crusty 30s cans from Massachusetts

#1

Post by MarkB »

Slowly cleaning some VERY crusty 30s cans from a Massachusetts dump. Nasty site with a fetid pool of much nearby. Most of the cans were total toast but some were buried,. Even found the remains of a beer tray. Even the solid cans were total crusty mysteries, but are revealing some cool labels after a soak in very hot oxalic.

Outstanding.
I also use some hot oxalic on the nasty cans.
But I also use hot Ox on good cans to get em cleaned quick and if they need to be cleaned more I put them in a second bath of room temp Ox to slowly take the rust away.

Guess which can made me REALLY happy? These were all very, very crusty mystery cans. Soaked in strong oxalic. The Ballantine is an OI (two more are still soaking), the Colonials and the PON are long openers. Not shown: a Mule Head Ale that was just too rough to save.

I bet the Stroud Cream Ale made you happy! It would make me happy too! Well done. Another reminder to keep those mystery cans.
Thanks. Dave

no cones that I found. I think it was all flats.. There were bottles. Note the remains of a bottle cap still attached to the lid of one of the Colonials.

Did find the remains of a beer tray. It's soaking now just to see what it was..
