Re: Can w/ Bottle Breweriana Region

On my cell and harder for me to tell, but I believe there is an image(s) missing. I feel like there are more options to vote on than images. Or it might just be me.

I agree, this was pretty tough to get to 10 items. Then I see some items having very few votes and go tough crowd - lol... Was fun though.

Re: Another "honest and upstanding" seller on EBAY selling REPRO breweriana

I agree with TavernTreasures. The point is being missed somewhat. Saying it is a copy or reproduction in the auction title or description means nothing (except they will get a couple of bucks less for that auction). At a minimum, the piece itself should be marked. 1, 5, 10 years down the road, it wi...

Very nice. Was hoping to make it and schedule just did not allow it. This is a cool Pabst pre-pro piece and is typically referred to as the "Gnomes at Work".

Re: World War II Crowns

I'm not certain if it was mandatory versus a good business practice to create less waste in a sheet of crowns during the war years. Blatz, Pabst and Anheuser Busch also did this. Both Blatz and Pabst had some varieties also (different color of the font or color of background). http://www.therustybun...

Nice crown. Foreigncanman is correct. I think sometimes Wisconsin or Pabst collectors think it is from Pabst Brewing and they are actually from Ohio (J Pabst Sons) and that can sometimes drive the price up a hair in auctions. Still an uncommon crown though.

The one on the right I believe is actually not a German war Eagle, but has a MS tax stamp on the crown. Burger had several crowns with different state tax stamps on them. MS used the eagle. Below is an example of an Anheuser-Busch MS tax crown. MS tax.jpg Interestingly, as time went on past the war ...

WWII era crown (they had less metal waste as the punch holes for the crowns could be closer together to get more crowns out of a sheet of metal during the war years). It also came with red color text for Blatz. While uncommon, I do run across both styles occasionally (but I'm in Wisconsin)... I don'...

Nice. Croak items are fairly difficult to come. Nice pickup.

I have two crowns from them and that is it.

Make sense for Keith since it is brewed by Guinness. I will see if they distribute in Wisconsin as I live 30 minutes from where he grew up.

Re: Home Brewing

I think outside of the breweriana collecting hobby, I spend time with the homebrew hobby the most. While you can make really good beers with kits on the stove, I took it to another level and went from kits, to propane in the garage to now electric inside moving up to 20 gallons pots. Though I basica...

Re: Gallon question--1960's gallons, that is

If it was your first gallon beer purchase, you had other costs involved too. As the Hudy sign ad shows, a dispenser and Co2 gas had to be added to the gallon beer costs if you were using the Conax or Bridgeport dispenser (the conax is shown in the ad). The Tap-a-Keg would save you the CO2 costs afte...

Those bubbling letter signs are so cool. I wonder how many breweries used them? I guess Lucky is probably the most common. I've also seen one for Blatz, Goldendrop, Genessee, and now Hampden. Does anybody else know of a brewery that advertised with them? John H. Lithia out of West Bend also had a b...

Re: Ashland Wisconsin Brewery Beer Label

Cool label Dave. I believe that has to be a pre-pro label and not prohibition. Ashland Brewing Co closed in 1920 and did not reopen until 1933/34. In 1910, they applied for a patent for the signatures going vertical on each side for anything related to the Mollenhauer name.
