Re: Maier 16oz SOFTOPs - 9 of 10 examples I know of

The blue letter Regal Select soft top is shown in this (old) picture. It's the second one to the left of the row of Fishers. I'm not positive where it came from, but a good guess is from a now deceased half quart collector. He was selling off a lot of his western flats for $5 a case at a local show ...

Re: Who is seller Johns_Cans?

I received a lengthy email over the weekend from this guy pitching a single can that he's selling on ebay. It's an Olde Style instructional from Salem, Oregon. I'm wondering if everybody got this email or it was just sent to those people who live in the Northwest? If that's the case, then in additio...

Thanks for the effort. This would be a good story for the BCCA magazine. The technical side is probably a bit overwhelming for our publication, but the editing staff could decide what's is worthy of inclusion.

Yeah, the White Bear is what, about $5 maybe $10 tops??? Someone overpaid a bunch. Same goes for whoever dropped $500+ on a common as a rock Olympia. I don't care how freakin' clean it is, that is ridiculous. It's been a few years, but I paid $5 for mine which is every bit as nice if not better.

Re: BOISE BEER CAN SHOW this Summer!

This will be a fun regional show with plenty of stuff you don't normally see. There are lots of places to dump within a few hours drive as well so hope some of you can make a road or plane trip to the scenic Gem State. Here's a picture where we went out digging beforehand in 2001 and are splitting t...

It's not just the blemish in the R. The glare marks at the top of the can are identical in both photos.

Re: Cans Known As Zip Tabs Only

Has anybody ever seen an L&M or Old Gibraltar zip tab? The Padre and Regal Bock are the only two Maier zips that I've seen but anything is possible with them. They were penny pinchers and used flat/soft top lids later than many breweries on their budget beers. They moved to juice tops on a coupl...

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday

I picked these up last weekend from a lady on the Oregon coast who had them tucked away. Nothing exotic but I've been wanting to add a couple ball knobs to my collection at a reasonable price and they are local brands for me. Being small is an added bonus. The Pabst looks newer and I'm guessing 1950...

Re: Bull Dog Paint Over

Bulldog Lager is an Acme brand and the white lids on them are not uncommon. They primarily used them on the yellow Acme cans that were supposed to look like a glass of beer. The white lid was intended to mimic the foam at the top. The Bulldog Ale paintover pictured above with the outstanding documen...

Re: Halloween Beer Cans

The Witches Brew photo was pulled from the internet rather than being of my can. I do have a dollar box dumper but I have no plans to get rid of it unless a better one comes along. It's from my area (Sunny Jim is a Seattle brand) so there is always a chance I might dump some, but in my 25 years of d...

It's not beer but this is the ultimate Halloween themed can in my opinion. It's from the 60's so has some age.

Alaska Cone Top

It's common knowledge Apex cones are very tough. For those not in the know, here's why. 20230819_220540.jpg For the people of Alaska. How cool is that? Interestingly we have found a couple of these in Washington state but wonder if brewery workers grabbed them off the back dock vs. being sold in sta...

Black Label Sign

I picked up this Black Label sign that has a photo of Portland and Mt. Hood in the background. With the local flavor, I had to have it. The sign says Carling Brewing Co., Cleveland in the lower right corner of the red logo so possibly a stock sign with different inserts. My guess this is from the la...

Started collecting in 1974 when we lived in Chicago. Still have my first can which is an Old Milwaukee I found in front of my grade school. In 1975 we moved back to California near Santa Cruz. The very first can I found was on the property. It was a few years before I realized the significance as it...

Re: American Brewers Journal Aug - Oct 1937 Highlights

Love the Golden Age ad. There has been speculation (wishful thinking is probably more accurate) by a few people that possibly the black Golden Age label was produced as a quart. The majority consensus is that the label change occurred prior to quarts and your advertisement provides further validatio...

Oldstyle Quart from Washington - SOLD (please move)

Here's a rarely seen can that only a Rusty Buncher could truly love. This graced my shelves for many years before I finally got an upgrade. It was found in southern Washington State around 2002 near Mt. Adams. As you can see, it has a gaping hole on one side but fortunately it is not visible from th...

Re: Beer Wars or Hard Times?

Bud Light's sales are down significantly for well documented reasons I don't need to go into here (nor does anybody else - tread lightly folks). They may have a lot of beer on hand that is reaching its expiration date. Better from their perspective to sell it cheap rather than dump it completely. Co...

Nothing here a minty guy would want but they will likely never own one either. Happy to have these on my shelves in spite of their warts. Let's see your rare but roasted cans. Re: Show off your BOCK!

Living in the northwest, we NEVER find bock cans. Here's the only bock I've ever dug north of the California border. This was found about twenty years ago in Eastern Oregon and was certainly an unexpected but pleasant surprise. We had a little acid with us so gave it a quick soak along with a couple...

Very tough can. Kevin's R9 rating is about right. While there are few exceptions, generally speaking, any can from Grace Bros. LA, is tougher than the Santa Rosa counterpart. Nice find, you won't have any trouble getting rid of the other.

Agreed that none of this makes any sense. I don't care how clean they are, Jubilee zip tabs are not worth a fraction of that. The 16 oz. Rainier Malt Liquor is much rarer and only fetched about a quarter of the price. The Lucky O/I looks to be the garden variety version worth several hundred dollars...

On a hot afternoon or after a long day of digging, I enjoy MGD or Miller high life for what it is, light beer. The can pictured is the correct one for the auction. You can see the Oregon statement in the far left picture plus the brewery on the seam. This can is relatively easy to find off grade and I've dumped it on numerous occasions. The IRTP version is definitely tougher but still not too hard to track d...

I glanced at four cans and spotted errors in two of the listings. I know it's a lot of work to assimilate all the information, but a final check should have been done. One of them in addition to being incorrect, omitted an important detail that ought to increase the selling price if noted (1 in 50 v...

Re: Sell or Pass on

Who knows what this stuff will be worth when our day finally comes. I've seen a few large 70's era collection left by a deceased father who assured his kids that the cans were worth a fortune. It's awkward to be the one to tell them that these (often dirty and smoke stained) cans have little to no v...
